Two-Factor Authentication Instructions

KSU now requires multi-factor authentication for all users. Please follow the instructions below to complete your two-factor authentication and gain access to your account. 

Please Note: Users are required to complete two methods for two-factor authentication, to access their KSU One login account.

Installing 2FA using a PC or mac

Please note: These instructions will guide you through setting up 2FA using a PC or MAC computer; however, a mobile device is also required for installing the authenticator app and receiving verification codes via  text or call. 

Method 1: Authenticator App

1. From the Kentucky State University Home Page, click the email icon

2. Enter your KSU email and password

3. On the More information required screen, click Next

4. You will now be shown instructions to set up Method 1 with the Microsoft Authenticator App. The app can be found in the Apple Store for iOS or the Google play store for Android. Click Next

5. On your mobile device, manually search for the Microsoft Authenticator App in the App Store or Google Play Store or scan the QR code bleow for your specific device to open the app install page. Then install the app on your device.

6. Once you've downloaded and installed the Microsoft Authenticator App on your mobile device, open the app and select Add account or tap the Plus Icon in the top right corner

7. Select Work or school account

8. Tap Scan QR Code to open your device's camera which will be used to scan the QR in the next step

9. Back on your computer, click the Next button to load the next screen with the QR code.

10. Once the QR code is loaded, use your mobile device to scan the QR code from the Configure mobile app screen

11. After scanning the QR code, the next screen will display a number. Enter this number in the prompt on your mobile device and tap Yes

12. You should then see the Notification approved with a green check mark on your computer. You will also see the account listed in your Microsoft Authenticator app. 

Tap next on your computer screen to begin setting up the phone method (call or text)

Method 2: Phone (text or call)

1. After setting up your Microsoft Authenticator App, the next step is to set up the phone method for text or phone. Enter your phone number and choose Text me a Code or Call Me and click Next

2. You will receive a 6-digit code via text or call. Enter this number in the field and click Next

3. Once you've confirmed the code, then you will receive the SMS verified or Call verified message. Click Next

4. You have now completed the Two-Factor Authentication process. Click Done to close the window and access your account

Installing 2FA using a mobile device

1. Navigate to kysu.edu on your mobile device and scroll down to the Email icon

2. Type in your KSU email (firstname.lastname@kysu.edu) and tap Next

3. Enter your password and tap Sign In

4. You will then be notified that more info is required. Tap Next

5. On this screen tap the I want to set up a different method

6. Tap the drop down and select Phone and then tap Confirm

7. Type your phone number in and select Text me a code or Call me. Then tap Next

8. Enter the code sent to you via text or call and tap Next

9. The phone method is now verified. Tap Next

10. Tap on I want to set up a different method

11. Select Security Questions from the menu and tap Confirm

12. Select questions and provide answers then tap Done

Change your phone number or authentication email for two-factor authentication (2FA)


Click here if you are changing the phone number and verification email you use for 2FA.

NOTE: This change must be completed prior to de-activating the old phone number or email.
