Pre- College Academy

Kentucky State University’s Pre- College Academy is an academic enrichment residential summer bridge program designed for first time freshmen and transfers with 30 or less credit hours. PCA provides the opportunity for participants to earn college credit, experience campus life, create effective study habits and become acclimated to KSU before their next steps in the fall. Each year we employ continuing students to serve as counselors for the program to ensure the students receive a well-rounded introduction to undergraduate academic and social life at the University. 

Pre- College Academy Counselor- Job Description

Counselors will be given three main tasks throughout the summer. All counselors will have be responsible for the following:

  1. Mentorship
    Each counselor will be paired with 2-3 mentees for the duration of the program.

  2. Events
    Each counselor will rotate and be responsible for the facilitation of events. This includes before, during, and after.

  3. Special Assignments
    Each counselor will be assigned to different assignments throughout the duration of the program.

Counselors will also be assigned one more additional task which they will also be responsible for during the program. These tasks are:

  1. Tutoring
    Counselors assigned to this task will be responsible for providing tutorial services for the program participants. They will be familiar with the syllabus and professors and have a group of students and helping them academically.

  2. Special Task Force
    Counselors assigned to this task will be responsible for facilitating the distribution of the food during the summer. They will also help with special initiatives.

  3. Residential Assistant
    Counselors assigned to this task will be responsible for programming for their designated floors. They will also be responsible for completing assigned desk hours.

Position Criteria

  1. Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  2. Ability to attend training and be present for program dates
  3. Ability to relate and connect to students who are from different demographic backgrounds
  4. Willingness to commit to the program participant’s success
  5. Optimistic attitude and readiness to work
