Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) Reporting

  1. Kentucky State University signed and returned the ‘Recipient’s Funding Certification and Agreement’ for the Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act on April 11th, 2020.
  2.  Kentucky State University received $3,477,387 from the US Department of Education under Section 2003(a)(1) of the ARP Act. Of that amount, a portion must be used as emergency student aid.
  3. As of December 31, 2021 $3,402,980 has been disbursed to students.
  4. Kentucky State University estimates over 1,000 students are currently eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in the Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965. .
  5. As of December 2021, 1,681 students have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
  6. The Kentucky State University’s methodology for distributing funds under the CARES Act:
    • During the first phase, all full-time Pell eligible students are able to apply for funds through the Student Financial Aid Office’s website. The application will collect the following information: (1) Name, (2) KSU Student ID Number, (3) Phone Number, (4) Physical Address, (5) KSU Email Address, (6) Confirmation that students is currently enrolled and attending KSU during the current semester, (7) Demographic Information, (8) Financial Literacy Survey, and (9) Certification of Request.
    • All eligible students who complete the application and associated financial training will receive a predetermined allocation based upon information verified within their application.
    • In the second phase of this effort, students with exceptional financial need as determined by their 2021-2022 FAFSA, received Emergency Assistance support. This phase provided emergency financial assistance to applicants enrolled in a degree seeking academic program during the four terms impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic (Spring 2020, Fall 2020, Spring 2021 and Fall 2021) and applicants who do not receive aid based on demonstrated need and those who do/did not qualify for Title IV funds.
    • Eligible undergraduate students were awarded an award ranging from $400.00 to $1,950.00.
    • Additional funding can be sought out via the KSU Foundation COVID 19 Emergency Relief Fund and The CARES Funding – Student Relief Fund Panel.
    • Emergency Assistance Funds are awarded once.

FAQs

All CARES Act HEERF funding will occur via the KSU CARES Application.*

  • Currently enrolled as a degree-seeking full-time undergraduate student at Kentucky State University
  • Pell Eligible*
  • DACA students and international students are not eligible for the CARES Act Awards

Students must be financial aid eligible (as set forth by the FAFSA.) However, international and DACA students may submit a request for emergency funding through the COVID-19 Student Emergency Fund.

*Applications and Pell Eligibility were requirements for the Summer 2020 Semester only. Beginning Fall 2020 and completing Spring 2021 CARES funds will be distributed to all eligible students, after the census date each semester.
