Wickliffe, Ky., -- Two Rivers Fisheries Processing plant prepared over 6 million pounds of Silver Carp in 2019. Silver Carp are an invasive species that have infiltrated watersheds in the Midwest over the past 10 years. Originally used to mitigate vegetation in ponds the carp species made its way into Kentucky waterways through the lock system. Currently about 60 fishing outfits are netting the fish and taking them to processing plants for dispersal throughout the country and internationally. Angie Wu owner of Two Rivers hopes to process 8 million pounds of fish this year in addition she hopes to get a fertilizer plant up and running to lower the cost of disposing of the fish’s innards.
