Kentucky State University officials honored and recognized the hard work of student scholars, especially through the trials and tribulations of a pandemic and social unrest, during the Academic Honors Convocation in the Carl H. Smith Auditorium of David H. Bradford Hall.

Bobbie Knight, president of Miles College, was the convocation speaker.

Knight congratulated the students and noted they have proven they are totally vested in their education.

“As exceptionally motivated students, you deserve to be celebrated,” Knight said. “Especially during this year of a pandemic, social unrest and political upheaval. You are examples of what it means to endure hardship and come out a winner.”

Knight commended the students for pushing through adversity.

“You pushed through the political noise, you pushed through the social unrest,” Knight said. “Many of you pushed through the sickness and possibly the loss of loved ones due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You may have taken ill yourself, but you pushed through. I know there are many days when you felt isolated and alone, but you pushed through. There may have been times when you couldn’t reach your professors or your advisors, but you pushed through. You did that.”

Kentucky State University President M. Christopher Brown II presented the President’s Awards to freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors with a 4.0 grade point average. Twenty-five students received the award.

Frankfort Mayor Layne Wilkerson presented the Mayor’s Citizenship Award to Kentucky State University Regent and Student Government Association President Kirk L. Miller.

Cameron Galloway, Mr. Kentucky State University, was honored in a special presentation as a 2020 Newman Civic Fellow.

Other honors and awards were presented, including the 1890 Scholarship recipients, college and departmental awards, president’s list, dean’s list and academic honor roll students.
