Employee Profile - Sophia Rucker-Taylor

Name: Sophia Rucker-Taylor

Position: Student Ombudsperson and Liberal Studies Advisor

How long have you been employed at Kentucky State? I came in 2001. In 2016 I was gone for 10 months before returning.

What do you enjoy most about your role? I’ve always enjoyed listening and helping people come up with solutions to fulfill their goals. In my role as student ombudsperson I listen to student issues and as liberal studies advisor I help those that for some reason didn’t complete their degree come back to finish or may not able to complete the track they are on. This December we will have an 80-year-old graduating with her associate degree.

What has been one of your favorite moments at Kentucky State? Other than me being a first-generation college graduate, every time I see those with serious obstacles walk across the stage as a Kentucky State graduate.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working? Writing. My new book, “Finding Inner Peace in the Presence of God,” was released in August for my birthday. Spending time with family, especially my G-Babies Lady Ziona, Prince Floyd, my daughter and husband. Watching shows or attending events that deal with cooking, fashion and real estate.

What is one thing you couldn’t live without? Grace/mercy.

A fun fact about me is… I enjoy working on vintage automobiles, looking at blueprints and schematics. I worked at Texas Instrument for almost 19 years with electronic geeks.
