Computer Science Scholarships

Statistically, getting a college degree can significantly increase your lifetime earning potential. But getting that degree can be expensive! The Division of Computer Science at Kentucky State University has access to the following scholarships to help our students afford their education. Wood Taylor Memorial Scholarship

  • Available to Computer Science majors, must be either a Sophomore or Junior
  • Previous awardees ineligible for consideration
  • Must write an essay describing how this scholarship would make a difference in enhancing your education
  • Amount: $1,000

KY NSF EPSCoR

  • Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research
  • Graduate Research Assistantship $22,000 /year (tuition + stipend) to conduct research in Computer Science at Kentucky State University in collaboration with the University of Kentucky.

NASA EPSCoR

  • Graduate Research Assistantship
  • $23,000 /year (tuition + stipend) to conduct research in Computer Science at Kentucky State University in collaboration with the University of Kentucky.

NSF REU

  • Research Experience for Undergraduates
  • $600/month, work 10-20 hours/week to conduct collaborative research with the University of Kentucky.

KSTC

  • Kentucky Science and Technology Cooperation
  • Graduate Research Assistantship
  • $13,000 /year (stipend) to conduct research in Computer Science at Kentucky State University

HBCU Scholarship & Assistantship

  • Graduate Scholarships:
    • $ 6,688 /year for in-state tuition
    • $15,202 /year for out-state tuition
  • Graduate Assistantship:
    • Up to $18,000 /year tuition + stipend
  • Responsibilities:
    • Teaching assistant: teach or assist undergraduate classes in computer science
    • Research assistant: conduct research in the fields of:
      • High performance computing
      • Wireless sensor networks
      • Information security
      • Databases and data mining
      • Modeling and simulation
      • Please note that this list is not exhaustive: Other areas of research may be approved if deemed appropriate.
  • Qualifications: 3.0 GPA minimum
  • Availability: generally, 20 hours per week for the funding year
  • Communication Skills: in order to meet expectations of others outside KSU, students must have comprehensive communication skills
  • Integrity: motivated to do what needs to be done, even while working unsupervised
  • Complements our team of graduate students: gets along well in a team structure – can lead or follow as needed
  • Mature Initiator: able to take directions, but can also initiate appropriate actions toward goals when directions are not provided
  • While not required, it is helpful to possess some industry experience in technology.

Apriorit

$1,000 Computer Engineering Scholarship

  • Must be a graduate of a public or accredited private high school
  • Must be a first-year student in a computer engineering or computer science program at a US-based college or university, residing in US
  • Must have a minimum composite SAT score of 1700 or ACT score of 27
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Must be passionate about computer engineering :)

UNCF / Dell Corporate Scholars Program

  • Need-based scholarships for minority, full-time students with demonstrated unmet financial need
  • Must be sophomore or junior during application/interview process
  • Minimum GPA: 3.0
  • Closing Date: 30-October-2015
  • Selectees may be considered for internship opportunities at Dell (Summer, 2016)

NASA MUREP

  • Office of Education Minority University Research and Education Project
  • Deadline: 16-May-2014
  • Applications should be submitted through the NASA One Stop Shopping Initiative at intern.nasa.gov . Applicants should be sure to select “scholarship” for the type of application.
  • Up to $9,000 academic scholarship, not to exceed 75% of verified tuition, and a $6,000 stipend for a required Summer 2015 ten-week internship at a NASA center. The internship provides scholars with a unique NASA research experience and preparation for global competitiveness. MUREP Scholarships cannot be concurrently accepted or combined with another US Government Federal scholarship or funding, irrespective of the scholar’s status.
