Associate professor of biology co-authors review on emerging infectious diseases caused by bat-borne viruses

Dr. Alexander Lai, associate professor of biology at Kentucky State University, is a co-author of an extensive review article on emerging viruses from bats. “Emerging viruses: Cross-species transmission of coronaviruses, filoviruses, henipaviruses, and rotaviruses from bats” describes the geographic distribution of bats and their viruses, viral evolution, and unique features for the emergence of coronaviruses, including SARS-CoV-2, the virus causing COVID-19.   

The review is a collaboration among scientists from China, the United States, and Germany and is published in the highly prestigious journal, Cell Reports, with an impact factor of 41.6.
