Kentucky State University mourns the loss of Veleria Shavers


Kentucky State University mourns the loss of alumna, former long-time employee and friend, Veleria Shavers. 

Shavers earned a master’s degree in public administration at Kentucky State. Shavers also had a 38-year career at Kentucky State, serving in the areas of counseling and career placement, as well as student affairs. Shavers impacted thousands of students during her career. 

Shavers also served as staff regent on the Kentucky State University Board of Regents in 1994-95 and 1996-97. An active alumna, Shavers was a life member of the Kentucky State University National Alumni Association. 

Outside of Kentucky State, Shavers was a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Main Street Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky. 

Shavers also earned a bachelor’s in business administration and a master’s in guidance and counseling from Tennessee State University. 

Visitation and funeral for Veleria Shavers occurred Wednesday, Dec. 15 at Main Street Baptist Church in Lexington and Lexington Cemetery.
