Two-time Kentucky State University alumna to provide assembly address at Anna Mac Clarke Veterans Recognition Assembly 2021


A two-time Kentucky State University alumna and the operations officer for the Army National Guard G-9, Installations and Environment Directorate will provide the assembly address Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. in the Carl H. Smith Auditorium of David H. Bradford Hall and online during the annual Anna Mac Clarke Veterans Recognition Assembly 2021. 

Lieutenant Colonel La’Shawna Waller has served in a variety of leadership and staff positions at the operational and strategic levels. Highlights include assistant executive officer in the Office of the Director Army National Guard at the National Guard Bureau; U.S. Army White House Social Aide from 2015-2017; and two combat tours. 

Waller’s military education is extensive, including the engineering qualification course; planning, programming, budgeting, and executing system (PPBES) course; and command and general staff officers course. Waller’s  awards and decorations are numerous, including the Bronze Star Medal; the Defense Meritorious Service Medal; and the Army Meritorious Service Medal (with two oak leaf clusters). 

Waller graduated from Kentucky State in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in biology. She earned a Master of Arts in special education from Kentucky State and a Master of Science in environmental management from Webster University. Waller is currently pursuing an Ed.D. from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University in leadership and learning in organizations.  

The assembly will also include recognition of armed services and a presentation of awards.
