Students and faculty earned honors during student research day
Kentucky State University students and faculty earned honors during the annual student research day hosted by the School of Business and Technology.
Students from the campus community presented research via oral and poster presentations. Over 250 people attended the event, which featured 56 poster and oral presentations by student scholars. Work was judged by faculty, administrators and business and government professionals.
Honors were announced during the awards banquet.
Undergraduate oral presentation award winners included Luci Smith and Ashley Sheeks (first place); Taylor Cammack (second place) and Trudy Rose (third place). Graduate oral presentation winners included Eve Ann Jones and Saaruj Khadka (first place); Tommy Craig (second place); and Gill Finley III, Eve Ann Jones, Scott McKelway and Robert Warnee (third place).
Undergraduate poster competition awardees included Ashley Sheeks (first place); Jazmine Richmond, Deyshon Ward, and Madankrishna Acharya (second place); and Au’briana Chambers (third). Graduate poster presentation winners included Eve Ann Jones (first); Benjamin Wheeler (second); and John Blair and Sharon Hockensmith (third).
The best paper award went to one undergraduate and one graduate student. Luci Smith received the undergraduate honor, while John Blair received the graduate honor.
The event also included two faculty awards: the College of Business and Computational Science (CBCS) Teaching-Research Award and the CBCS Scholar Award.
Dr. Jyotica Batra, assistant professor of physics, received the CBCS Teaching-Research Award in recognition of longstanding excellence in teaching and research in the classroom to enhance student learning outcomes.
Dr. Swagata “Ban” Banerjee, associate professor of economics and finance, received the CBCS Scholar Award in recognition of a position of prominence in his discipline through scholarship and/or creative activities.
The CBCS Faculty Recognition Committee that reviewed and judged nomination portfolios for faculty awards consisted of scholars from over half a dozen countries.
