A Kentucky State University journalism professor will soon receive two awards from the Broadcast Education Association (BEA).

David L. Shabazz, an assistant journalism professor and associate chair in the School of the Humanities and Performing Arts, was chosen to receive two awards during the BEA’s Festival of Media Arts ceremony in Las Vegas Monday, April 8.

Shabazz will receive an award of excellence for “Arts in Education” in the radio station promo, PSA, commercial category and the best of competition for “Vengeance” in the episodic short scriptwriting category

Shabazz will also present a paper, “Assessing Student Learning in Mass Communication Programs,” at the convention’s assessment boot camp. The BEA’s annual convention is held in conjunction with the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show in Las Vegas every spring.

“This is an opportunity to grow by learning from other scholars and sharing with them our best practices in program assessment,” Shabazz said.
