Kentucky State University president named Man of the Year by Project One
Kentucky State University President M. Christopher Brown II was honored recently during Project One, Inc. of Louisville’s 33rd anniversary dinner and awards of excellence banquet at The Crown Plaza Hotel.
President Brown was honored with the Project One Man of the Year Award for his dedication and commitment in providing higher education leadership in preparing students for workforce development and summer employment.
“I am pleased to receive this honor of being named the 2018 Man of the Year by Project One,” President Brown said as he accepted the award. “This award is a testament to the hard work of Kentucky State’s dedicated faculty, staff, alumni and friends, and especially our students, whose performance in the classroom and community service throughout the Commonwealth accelerate KSU forward.”
President Brown began his tenure at Kentucky State in the summer of 2017 and has propelled the University forward. The University’s recent HB 303 management and improvement plan shows marked fiscal improvement and more efficient operations. Organizational restructuring and focus on academics, access, agriculture and athletics has led to Kentucky State’s rise in national rankings and, more importantly, increased the satisfaction of students.
Project One has served over 30,000 young people in the Louisville metropolitan area since 1985. According to the Project One website, the organization works hard to provide youth with the necessary skills to become successful in their transitions into adulthood.
The organizations efforts have yielded over 14,000 youth placed in meaningful career path employment, according to the Project One website.
According to its mission, Project One is a school-based, community-based, faith-based, not-for-profit, educational organization that exists to serve, educate, train and prepare disadvantaged youth and adults for healthy and successful transitions into postsecondary education, meaningful employment opportunities and career ladder placements by developing training programs and institutes, summer programs, year-round activities and life-long learning solutions to bring about economic empowerment and self-sufficiency.
