To the KSU Community:

Did you know Sexual Assault Awareness Month is celebrated in April?  Sexual Assault Awareness has a rich history dating back to the late 1970s in which women in England held protests against the violence they encountered as they walked the streets at night. These protests were called Take Back the Night marches. The ingenuity of these women and their cause spread to other countries as the protests grew.

In America today, sexual assault and violence against women continues to plague college campuses. According to the Department of Education, one in five women will experience a sexual assault during her college years. 60% of assaults occur in the residence halls and 90% of women who are sexually assaulted in college know the individual who assaulted them. Given these incredibly high numbers, Kentucky State University has an opportunity and an obligation to provide a campus environment of civility and respect.

To accomplish this, we must pledge to recognize that non-consensual sex is sexual assault, and be able to identify situations in which sexual assaults may occur. We must pledge to intervene in situations where consent has not or cannot be given, and most importantly, we must create an environment in which sexual assault is unacceptable and survivors are supported.

Denim Day Sexual Assault Awareness Day

Time: 11:00 AM

Attire: Blue Jeans and Denim

Summary: The Office of Student Life will host an event in remembrance of Denim Day. The campus community will stand in solidarity to recite the Denim Day Pledge, and release balloons honoring survivors of sexual assault.

 

CAN YOU DUNK DEAN LOWE?

Location: Student Center Courtyard

Time: 12:00 PM

Summary:  For a contribution of $1.00, the campus community will have the opportunity to dunk Dean Lowe. All proceeds will be donated to the Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center.
