The Kentucky State University Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop presents “Gala.” The first performance will be held at 10 a.m. for school-age children, and the second performance will be at 7 p.m. for the general public. Both performances will take place on Tuesday, April 25 in the Bradford Hall Little Theater. The public is invited to enjoy both free performances.

This year’s production will include excerpts from “Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro),” “Lakme’s Bell Song,” “La Boheme,”  “Evita,” “Phantom of the Opera,” “The Sound of Music” and “The Lion King.” There will be lavish costumes, elaborate sets and a premiere of an electro-acoustic orchestra.

The performance also will feature participation from the Brass Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Divas & Company and school-age children along with the cast and crew of the Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop.

The Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop is a course offered each semester of the academic school year. It is open to both music and non-music majors alike.  Students in the class will practice good vocal habits, draw upon the musical foundation of aural skills and explore the body of literature that incorporates the music of the theater.  Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop exposes students to both Opera and Musical Theatre genres. Also, students gain a comprehensive experience with stage production from costumes to scenery to stage deportment to the final curtain call.
