Update: Due to blizzard warning and safety concerns, the Whitney Young Center for Global Leadership regretfully cancels its week-long trip to New York.

About 16 Kentucky State University (KSU) students from the Honors Academy of the Whitney Young Center for Global Leadership will be heading out on a week-long trip to the East Coast from March 14 to March 20.

Upon arrival to New York, all students will receive a seven-day New York Transit Metro Pass (subway & buses) and a City Pass for outings, and they will stay at the Watson Hotel, which is only three blocks away from Central Park.

Honors Program students, including KSU junior Kameron Holmes, look forward to a productive trip to Big Apple during spring break.

“It’s a learning experience, networking opportunity, and a big step up from the old program,” he said.

While in New York, students will have dinner and attend “The Lion King” on Broadway with Whitney M. Young Jr.’s daughter, Dr. Marcia Young Canterella.

“Whitney Young was a global leader. I’m visiting to expand my global studies, leadership skills, and to have fun,” said Honors Student Council Vice President Madison Powell.

After their return, Dr. Cynthia Shelton and Dr. Donavan Ramon would like to have an open forum to give those who went on the trip the opportunity to share their experiences with the rest of the KSU student body.

“This trip takes students outside of their comfort zones,” said KSU junior Gentell Esters. “You can’t pass up a trip for $150 and three credit hours.”
