LOUISVILLE — The Whitney Young Honors students, KSU art majors, and their professors attended the 23rd Annual African American Art Exhibition Reception and Awards Ceremony at the Actors Theatre of Louisville on Friday, February 3.

Board of Regents Chair Dr. Karen Bearden and Interim President Dr. Aaron Thompson extended the special invitation to KSU students.  Dr. Cynthia Shelton, Interim Honors Chair of The Whitney Young Center for Global Leadership, coordinated the trip as an opportunity for students to network with the Commonwealth’s artistic community and its patrons.

“This type of experiential activity is perfectly aligned with a new curriculum that The Honors Academy is proposing,” she said. “It’s important that our students learn how to present themselves and their work in a variety of professional forums.  We appreciate the opportunity.”

KSU art student and design major Rashad Bishop shared his photography with the exhibition juror, Kevin Cole, who encouraged Bishop to submit his work in next year’s competition.

Honors student and design major Christa Watson and honors studio art major Ronalyne Pascua were also encouraged to submit their work.

Invited Honors Core students were Maya Brown, Gentell Esters, Ronalynne Pascua, Christa Watson and Steven Waurio.  Fine arts students included Rashad Bishop and Destiny Anderson. The students were accompanied by Fine Arts Chair Dr. Roosevelt Shelton, Dr. Cynthia Shelton, Dr. Donavan Ramon, Professor Raphael C. Jackson and Karen Brown of the Whitney Young Center.
