The 2016 Summer Apprenticeship Program (SAP) came to a close June 25. The program, supported by externally-funded NSF and USDA grants aims to introduce rising high school students to STEM fields as well as agricultural, environmental and geo-spatial related disciplines.

 This year, 27 rising juniors and senior high school students participated in SAP where they gained a great deal of knowledge and cultivated research skills from experiential research opportunities, field trips, and presentations. Throughout the program, students were mentored by KSU faculty members and research scientists.

The three-week long program introduced students to the basics of college prep courses in math, chemistry, physics and biology.

“I would like to thank all mentors, SAP counselors, dorm supervisors, and support staff and administrators for making this program a grand success,” said Dr. Buddhi Gyawali, Assistant Professor of Geospatial Applications and Human Dimensions of Natural Resources.

“I especially would like to thank Mr. Jeremy Sandifer, STEM Project Coordinator and Mr. Andrew Gott, SAP Program Assistant, for their hard work and dedication for the successful implementation of this program.

“My special appreciation goes to all SAP mentors who contributed their valuable time and assistance to the SAP participants for conducting experiential research activities.  Thank you again for your outstanding mentorship. The program would not have been successful without your support. I appreciate very much your time, patience, and contribution to this program and hope to have your continued support in future.”
