Kentucky State University is excited to announce that Dr. Joe Moffett, Assistant Professor of English in the Division of Literature, Languages, and Philosophy, will become the Director of Faculty Development/Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) effective immediately.

One of the many plans the Pennsylvania native has in store for the University are monthly faculty brown-bag sessions, which will be held at noon on Tuesdays in Room 419 Hathaway Hall. The event will kick off on November 23 with Dr. Tierra Freeman. The workshops will allow faculty members to share the work they are doing in the classroom with students or their research projects, he said.

“I would also like to offer workshops on topics such as legal issues and financial aid for our faculty,” he said. “I want to encourage more dialogue on campus and more of a sense of community among faculty.”

The 45-minute sessions will allow faculty to discuss their projects with a Q&A session to follow. Dr. Moffett also wants to explore the possibility of organizing common reading and creating a support group for faculty members working on research articles.

Dr. Moffett is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University. He received his Master’s and a Ph.D. in English from West Virginia University. For the last two years, he has served as Chair of Academic Policies Committee in Faculty Senate.  He is the author of three monographs (The Search for Origins in the Twentieth-Century Long Poem, West Virginia UP, 2007; Understanding Charles Wright, University of South Carolina UP, 2008; Mysticism in Postmodernist Long Poems, Lehigh UP, 2015) and his articles have appeared in a number of publications including Literature Interpretation Theory, The Journal of the Midwest Modern Language Association, The Southern Literary Journal, and ANQ.

Dr. Moffett has conducted peer reviews for The Explicator, Cengage, Palgrave / Macmillan, and Lehigh UP.  He has also served as a guest editor for Genre: Forms of Discourse and Culture and for five years edited the Kentucky Philological Review, for which he was awarded a 2016 Distinguished Member Award from the Kentucky Philological Association.

Other awards include a Professional Achievement Award from the University of Maryland-University College, Teacher of the Year (Kentucky Wesleyan College), and research travel grants from Washington University in St. Louis.

Dr. Moffett also will work on the QEP, which is required by The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern States.
