Student Spotlight – Michael Weaver Jr.

Name: Michael Weaver Jr.

Hometown: Kansas City, Missouri (by way of St. Louis)

Classification: Junior

Major: Music Education

Why Kentucky State? I chose Kentucky State because of the family atmosphere and the many resources the university offers.

What is your major and why did you choose this area of study? I chose to do music education because there is a need for black male teachers in the classroom across the world. The only way to fix this issue is to be the solution and show students of color that they can be more than what society wants them to be.

Who inspires you and why? I am inspired by all of our students at Kentucky State and every HBCU student who is pursuing an education, because we have all made the choice to better ourselves and our communities.

What do you plan to do when you graduate? When I graduate, I plan to get a masters from Southern University in Educational Leadership and receive a doctoral degree to become an HBCU president by the age of 35.
