Student Spotlight - Brianna Patterson

Name: Brianna Patterson
Hometown: Houston, Texas
Classification: Graduating Senior
Major: Political Science and Business Management

Why Kentucky State?

I chose Kentucky State University because they offered me a full-ride scholarship for my academics. I was also able to come and run track and cross country. My parents are both alumni of this illustrious university.

What is your major and why did you choose this area of study?

My first major was political science. I chose this area of study to prepare me for law school and give me better insight on politics. I then picked up a double major in business management to better prepare me for the sports management law field I want to pursue. I also have a minor in sports management.

Who inspires you and why?

Both my grandmothers – Jackie Patterson and Ann Terrell – inspire me. They are both retired educators. Throughout my last couple of years in college, they have pushed me to reach all of my goals, they support me entirely and show me that whatever I put my mind to, I can always accomplish. Throughout their career, one has written a book, they have traveled and been motivational speakers, and when they come into someone’s life, they leave an amazing positive mark. They inspire me to be the best I can be.

What do you plan to do when you graduate?

I plan to further my education and attend law school at either the University of Louisville, University of Kentucky, Marquette University, Texas Southern University or Emory School of Law.

Words to live by:

“The harder you work for something, the greater you’ll feel when you achieve it.”

“Work for a cause, not for an applause. Live life to express, not to impress. Don’t strive to make your presence noticed, just make your absence felt.”
