Student Profile: Briana Wells

Name: Briana Wells

Hometown: Dayton, Ohio

Classification: Senior

Major: Psychology

Why did you choose Kentucky State?

I’ve always wanted to experience and learn more about HBCUs. Originally, I was supposed to follow in my mom’s footsteps and attend her alma mater, but I felt it was too close to home and I wouldn’t have the real college experience. My best friend went to Kentucky State and she convinced me to enroll. I fell in love with the campus when I came to visit.

What is your major and why did you choose this area of study?

My major is psychology with a minor in children and family relations. I want to be a clinical child therapist because I love children and hate to see them suffering.

What do you plan to do when you graduate?

I plan to move back home for a couple of years and save money while working in a hospital. Then, I would like to move to North Carolina and open my own private practice. My goal is to become established in my career and life by the age of 35.

Who inspires you and why?

My grandmother, Sylvia Banks, inspires me because what she sets her mind to, she does regardless of what people think or say; she never lets outside influences get in her way. She is a strong, black, educated woman. I just hope that one day I will be just like her.

What’s the point of looking back when you have so much in front you.”
