Kentucky State University students to attend Professional Agricultural Workers Conference

Kentucky State University students along with faculty, staff and several local farmers will attend the Professional Agricultural Workers Conference (PAWC) in December held at the Kellogg Conference Center at Tuskegee University in Alabama.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of PAWC, an annual forum that provides agriculture professionals with access to information and technology surrounding sustainable development. The three-day conference consists of a symposium, a Christmas concert, gala and banquet, student poster presentations, as well as a student research competition.

The Kentucky State students attending the conference are members of the campus program Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS), which is a nationally recognized organization that empowers its members to pursue advancement, both academically and professionally, in fields of agriculture and science. The students along with faculty and staff will present their research using poster presentations.

“This conference is a momentous occasion because it will demonstrate to our students the rich legacy of minorities as well as their contributions to the agricultural field,” said Dr. Courtney Owens, assistant extension administrator at Kentucky State.

Kentucky State student participants, who will depart for Tuskegee University Friday, Dec. 3 and return Dec. 5 include James Brown, Cora Teets, Tavin Marshall, Decerai Anderson, and Jordan Wilson. The students will present poster presentations alongside faculty and staff including Tehran Jewell, Erica Thompson, Dr. Marion Simon, Edwin Chavous, Laura Rogers, Shelley Spiggle, Deborah Clemons, Nancy Calix, Wyvette Williams, Steve Skelton, Dakarai Carrington, Frederick Bebe, Gill Finley and Dr. Ibukun Ogunade.
