Employee Profile: Amanda Roberts

Name: Amanda DeLane Roberts

Position: Administrative Assistant to the President

How long have you been employed at KSU? I began working at KSU on July 18, 2017 in the Office of General Counsel and moved to the President’s office on September 5, 2017.

What do you enjoy most about your role? I have always loved working with people and helping them resolve problems.  I take a lot of pride in knowing that I can help touch lives in a positive way. The more diverse the atmosphere, the happier I seem to be.

What has been one of your favorite moments at Kentucky State? I will never forget watching the solar eclipse with students, faculty and staff right outside of Hume Hall by the sundial.  I met a lot of amazing people on that beautiful day in only a few brief minutes. Not everyone had a pair of appropriate NASA approved glasses to see what was happening, so I tore mine in half and gave the one half to a group of people who also shared that moment with each other.  I remember thinking that the sundial couldn’t have been a more appropriate place to witness such a thing.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?  I love reading books, particularly the Bible and anything about the Carolinas.  I am fascinated by the Gullah lifestyle and with each recipe, fact or technique I learn, I feel very rich inside.  I spend as much time as possible with my husband, neighbors and all of our extended families. I craft, a lot.

What is one thing you couldn’t live without? It’s very selfish, but the answer is lip balm.

A fun fact about me is… I worked for the Kentucky House of Representatives for about 10 years and in that time I got to write and review legislation and get my hands into the lawmaking process.  My proudest moment was working with the late Representative Jim Callahan and the late Muhammad Ali on a stem cell research bill that would have allowed research and treatment for Parkinson’s Disease, among many others. I am also a certified 911 dispatcher, emergency medical dispatcher and I have F.E.M.A and N.C.I.C. credentials.  I teach my dogs (Labrador Retriever and German Shepherd) tricks and commands in English and French languages.
