Alumni Spotlight - Tanisha Renee' Elam

Name: Tanisha Renee’ Elam

What year did you graduate from Kentucky State? December of 2006

What have you been up to since graduation?

I began my career as a technology services intern at BNSF Railway while attending Kentucky State University, returning for two additional summers under marketing IT. Progressively, I secured a permanent position as a management trainee prior to graduating and I continue to pave the way as a pioneer throughout the intermodal-technological industry. Through tenacity and growth, I broke the mold by identifying opportunities and attacking challenges through God’s grace and an unyielding network of support. Currently, I serve as one of the few people, leaders and managers of color within my immediate organization and I attribute my success to a solid foundation paved at Kentucky State University. “Favor will take the labor away!”

What is the most important thing you learned here?

The unteachable tools gained at my HBCU are priceless and it is where I learned that actionable efforts yield results. Identify your passions and go for them! You will not be without challenges, rather you will use action as a catalyst to continue achieving and allow your fruits/gifts to make room for you. If you did not attend an HBCU what were you thinking? Hail to my Alma Mater!
