Certificates
Trauma Informed Response
Purpose of Certificate:
Pursuing this certificate offers significant benefits for BSW students. Since Human Behavior I (SOW 306) and Human Behavior II (SOW 307) are already required courses in the BSW program, students would only need to complete Child & Adolescent Dev (EDU 302) and Cultural Responsiveness (EDU 204), which can be applied toward their free electives. This makes the certificate both accessible and practical within the existing degree plan.
The certificate provides specialized training to work with children who have experienced trauma which is an increasingly critical skill in today’s educational landscape. Trauma is a leading factor affecting student behavior and academic performance, particularly in urban and rural school districts where rates of trauma exposure are rising. By earning this certificate, students gain extended, hands-on experience that strengthens their ability to support vulnerable youth, making them strong candidates for employment in high-trauma schools and related settings.
