Urban Ag / CEA Hydroponics

Urban CEA AG Hydroponics

The urban CEA team engages in many hydroponic research studies that involve soiless plant production. Hydroponics is a plant production method involving growing plants without soil using nutrient-enriched water. The greenhouse features hydroponic systems such as deep water culture and NFT systems that produce watercress, upland cress, lettuce, kale, Swiss chard, and other leafy green vegetables. These hydroponic systems are also used in graduate thesis research studies that study the effects of nutrient fertilization in leafy green production. They hope to develop many publications with hydroponic studies and present their findings at renowed horticulture and CEA conferences.
