Summer camps and programs begin June 3 at Kentucky State University and continue through the end of July, as the University serves as a beacon of access and learning year-round.

AgDiscovery begins June 3 in the Cooperative Extension Building and concludes June 16. AgDiscovery is a summer camp outreach program designed to introduce middle through high school students to career paths in the agricultural sciences field.

The Summer Apprenticeship Program also begins June 3 in the Cooperative Extension Building and concludes June 16. The Summer Apprenticeship Program is designed to prepare students for college life while exposing them to different career opportunities in STEM—science, technology, engineering and mathematics—fields.

The Higher Education Leadership Forum (H.E.L.F.) convenes on campus June 7 through June 10. The H.E.L.F. Leadership Institute offers a professional development experience that provides an opportunity to assess personal vocation and leadership skill, reaffirm a commitment to HBCUs and identify and enhance the qualities for a successful career as an effective leader and senior administrator.

Upward Bound begins June 8 in the Julian M. Carroll Academic Services Building (ASB) and concludes June 28. Upward Bound is a federally funded program that provides support to participants whose goals are to receive a college degree.

The Verizon Innovative Learning Program begins June 11 in ASB and concludes June 29. The summer academy is the culminating event for the yearlong program which engages students in STEM subjects and aims to increase interest in attending college.

The Youth Summer Institute for African-American and Hispanic youth ages 10-17 begins June 11 and concludes July 27. The institute is part of a year-round afterschool program. Registration for the program is still open. For more information, call Dr. Herman Walston at (502) 597-5906.

The Kentucky State University Pre-College Academy begins June 23 and concludes July 28. The Pre-College Academy is a five-week, academic enrichment, residential program within University College designed as a transition between high school and college. The academy allows first-year students to earn up to nine credit hours, experience campus life, create effective study habits and become acclimated to college before their first college term begins in the fall.

The Kentucky State University men’s basketball coach will host a youth basketball camp June 25-28 at the William Exum Center.

Thorobreds Head Coach Jamaal Jackson’s basketball camp is for boys and girls ages 7-17. Participants of all levels will learn fundamentals of the game and compete in games and contests.

For professionals looking for career advancement or students seeking an advantage, summer classes begin June 2. The Kentucky State University Board of Regents recently voted to approve the reduction of summer tuition rates to $125 per credit hour during its recent special meeting. The previous summer tuition rate for undergraduates living on campus was $309 per credit hour.
