Advance Your Career. Fulfill Your Potential.
Kentucky State University welcomes adult learners ready to take the next step in their education.
Credit for Prior Learning.
At Kentucky State University, we recognize that learning happens both inside and outside the classroom. Through Credit for Prior Learning (CPL), adult learners can earn college credit for the knowledge and skills they have already gained through work experience, military training, professional certifications, or other college-level learning.
KSU currently offers CPL credit through portfolio assessment, Joint Services Transcripts (JST), and College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exam scores. Our goal is to help you save time and money as you work toward completing your degree—without repeating what you already know.
The Center for Adult Learning guides students through each step of the CPL process, from determining eligibility to preparing and submitting portfolios for review. Our dedicated staff can help you understand how your prior experiences align with KSU courses and degree requirements.

Welcome Back Scholarship
Helping You Finish What You Started
The Welcome Back Scholarship at Kentucky State University is designed to support returning students who previously attended KSU but have been away for four or more years. We understand that life can interrupt even the best educational plans—and this scholarship provides a pathway for you to return and complete your degree.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the Welcome Back Scholarship, you must:
- Have stopped out of KSU for at least four (4) years
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
- Have a remaining student account balance of $1,500 or less
Students who meet the GPA requirement but have a balance greater than $1,500 must first pay down their balance to $1,500 or less before being considered for the scholarship.
How It Works
- Complete the Welcome Back Scholarship Application using the link below.
- The Center for Adult Learning will review your application for eligibility and approval.
- Approved applications will be forwarded to the Office of the Bursar, where the scholarship will be applied to your account balance.
This scholarship can help you reduce your balance and take the next step toward finishing your degree at Kentucky State University.
Expanding Access. Transforming Lives.
The Kentucky State University Prison Education Program (PEP) is an initiative of the Center for Adult Learning that brings high-quality college education to incarcerated students across the Commonwealth. Grounded in KSU’s mission of access, equity, and service, the program provides incarcerated learners with the opportunity to earn college credit and work toward a degree while developing critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills.
KSU currently partners with Northpoint Training Center, Roederer Correctional Complex, and Luther Luckett Correctional Complex to deliver courses through secure tablets using the Securus Lantern Learning Management System (LMS). Courses are offered in 8-week asynchronous carousel formats, allowing students to learn at their own pace and continue progressing year-round.
