Academic Standing
Good Academic Standing
To remain in good academic standing, a student must meet or exceed the following:
- Maintain a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher after completing:
- At least 12 credit hours (full-time), or
- At least 6 credit hours (part-time)
- Demonstrate progression toward degree completion consistent with program requirements and satisfactory academic progress standards.
Academic Warning
Students whose cumulative GPA falls between 2.00 and 2.49 will be placed on Academic Warning.
Conditions of Academic Warning include:
- Mandatory participation in weekly advising and tutoring
- Enrollment in required academic success interventions (e.g., coaching, tutoring)
- Restricted course load:
- 12–15 credit hours (full-time) or
- 6–9 credit hours (part-time)
- Registration holds until student meets with an advisor
Note: Students who remain on Academic Warning for two consecutive terms will be placed on Academic Probation
Academic Probation
Students will be placed on Academic Probation if:
- They remain on Academic Warning for two consecutive terms, or
- Their cumulative GPA falls between 1.75 and 2.00
Conditions of Academic Probation include:
- All Academic Warning requirements, plus:
- Development of a required academic success plan (contract)
- Enrollment in a structured course schedule
- Bi-weekly faculty progress reports shared with the advising team
Note: A student may remain on Academic Probation for one term only and must return to good standing (GPA ≥ 2.5) to continue enrollment.
Dismissal from the University
Students will be subject to academic dismissal under the following conditions:
- Cumulative GPA falls below 1.75, or
- Failure to meet the requirements for Good Academic Standing after probation, or
- Failure to meet the conditions of an academic success plan, or
- Continued academic deficiency after reinstatement
Students who are dismissed must:
- Remain out of the University for one full semester, and
- Petition for return through the institutional reinstatement committee process
Reinstatement After Dismissal
Students seeking reinstatement must:
- Submit an academic improvement plan
- Demonstrate readiness through coursework, transfer credits, or workforce experience
- Agree to a structured re-entry contract
- Participate in a reinstatement committee interview after one full semester of separation
Course Attempt and Progression Standards
- Students are limited to a maximum of two attempts per course
- General education requirements must be successfully completed within the first 30 credit hours
- Program-specific GPA requirements may exceed institutional minimums
- Failure to meet course progression requirements may result in removal from a major, minor, or area of specialization
Removal from Major, Minor, or Area of Specialization
A student who does not successfully complete required coursework within the allowed attempts may be removed from the program. Students may petition the Chair or Dean for an additional attempt in exceptional circumstances.
