Kentucky State Thorobred, Micah Stangebye, Crowned National Champion at PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship
In his final tournament as a Kentucky State Thorobred, Micah Stangebye became a national champion, winning the NCAA Division II individual title at the 2025 PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship at Whistling Straits Golf Courses.
Stangebye carded a final-round 80 on Wednesday—his highest score of the tournament—but strong performances in the first two rounds secured his victory. With back-to-back under-par rounds to open the week, he finished at 2-over-par 218 to claim the medalist honor.
“Winning the NCAA Division II individual title at the 2025 PGA WORKS College Championship is truly an incredible honor and a moment I’ll never forget,” said Stangebye.
Stangebye, who’s golf journey began at a young age in Montrose, Colorado, fell in love with the game and spent countless hours on the course.
“That dedication paid off when I won back-to-back state championships in high school and captured an American Junior Golf Association title, which really solidified my passion and drive to take golf to the next level,” explained Stangebye. “I began my college career at Arkansas Tech University, where I was surrounded by talented players and mentors—watching our team win the Division II national championship my freshman year was both inspiring and motivating. Those early experiences, combined with years of hard work, helped me grow not just as a player, but also as a person, and gave me the belief that I could compete and win at the highest level in college golf.”

This win marks his second career PGA WORKS individual title and a perfect end to his time at Kentucky State University.
“I'm proud to be graduating with a Business Administration degree from Kentucky State University,” said Stangebye. “After graduation, I’ll be moving to Nashville full-time to begin my career as a teaching PGA professional, while continuing to train and compete as I work toward my ultimate goal—earning a spot on the professional golf tours.”
