Kentucky State University participates in the UK Commonwealth Computational Summit
Last school year, Kentucky State University's Computer Science department developed a Blockchain project called Thorocoin. Two workshops were held on campus for students to learn about Blockchain.
Thorocoin was created, and students exchanged the coins from their smartphones for a gift card to be redeemed at the university’s bookstore. A grant from Morgan State University supported this project.
The project's success paved the way for the next initiative to develop a digital currency for the university that can be used on campus, and alums can invest in Thorocoin to generate scholarships and revenue. Dr. Richard Maiti and students George Seay, Kade Andruski, Amrit Nepal, Sujeet Acharya, Bina Ghimire, and Ifeoluwa Shoyoye worked on this project.
George Seay recently presented this project at the UK Commonwealth Computation Summit, paving the way towards innovation and the utilization of digital currency on college campuses.
