Miss and Mister Kentucky State University crowned, reign officially begins
Students, faculty, staff, alumni and special guests gathered on Oct. 13, for the coronation of Miss and Mister Kentucky State University in Carl H. Smith Auditorium in David H. Bradford Hall.
Senior biology/pre-med major Miana Elise Wallace was crowned the 93nd Miss Kentucky State University.
Hailing from Kansas City, Missouri, Miana’s journey at Kentucky State has been like no other and running for Miss KSU was not on her to-do list.
“If you had asked me what my plans were for college during my freshman year, I would have said to play volleyball, graduate and go right to medical school.”
However, Miana has achieved so much more all while maintaining a 3.9 GPA. She is a four-time John Henry Jackson Scholar; a Thurgood Marshall Fund Scholar; a four-time member of the women’s volleyball team; a two-time member of Kentucky State’s Pre-med Academy; a member of the Whitney M. Young Jr. Honors College; and, a proud member of the NAACP. Miana also serves as a charter member and one of the Board of Directors for Collegiate 100 and was named Miss Junior.
Miana aspires to attend a historically Black medical school to become one of the many Black doctors that brings equity to the healthcare field.
Physical education (non-teaching) major Urias Kelly didn’t let nerves get the best of him as he ascended the throne as the 29th Mister Kentucky State University.
“I wasn't nervous because I knew what to expect but I was anxious because I didn't know how it would turnout and I didn't want any surprises that weren't in our favor that night,” he shared.
Urias is a native of Chicago, Illinois. While at Kentucky State, he has served as a class president and is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. where he was polemarch as a neo. He plans to earn his master’s degree in sports management and hopes to boost campus morale during his reign.
