
Dr. Ethan Sharp named Director of Grants and Sponsored Programs
With over 20 years of experience, Kentucky State University recently announced former Grants and Foundations Manager at the Speed Art Museum in Louisville Dr. Ethan Sharp as the director of Grants and Sponsored Programs at the university.
During his professional career, Dr. Sharp has written a wide variety of successful grant proposals for research, program development, and capital projects and has managed multi-year government, private foundation, and corporate grants for universities and museums.
Dr. Sharp began his career as a grant writer and manager as assistant director of the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies at Indiana University, obtaining major USDE and state department grants that provided a foundation for the Center’s growth. As the grants and foundations manager at the Speed Art Museum, he coordinated the submission of over 50 grant proposals per year.
Dr. Sharp has also held faculty positions at the University of Kentucky and the University of Texas—Pan American, teaching courses in folklore, history, and Latin American and Caribbean studies. As a researcher, he has specialized in oral history, immigration, Latinx studies, and substance use disorder treatment and recovery.
Dr. Sharp holds a Ph.D. in folklore, with a doctoral minor in history, from Indiana University, Bloomington.
The Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs coordinates research, grants, and sponsored programs on a university-wide basis. The Office assists with pre-award functions to include identification of funding opportunities, proposal development, and adherence to submission guidelines dictated by the sponsoring agency. Grants and Sponsored Programs also supports university researchers in post-award grant administration by reviewing and executing award documents and contractual agreements; managing budget set-up; monitoring grant expenditures to ensure adherence to Office of Management and Budget Uniform Guidance; and, ensuring the timely submission of required technical and financial reports when applicable.
