Kentucky State welcomes a new class of Thorobreds to the Hill

Over 500 new students chose Kentucky State University to pursue their postsecondary education this semester. The Class of 2026 is comprised of 428 first-time and 107 transfer students. Their arrival on the Hill was confirmed August 18, 2022 during a special ceremony.

Interim President Ronald A. Johnson set the tone for the evening heartening students to own their future with his presentation, Enabling Your Intended Future.

“Ask yourself three questions: What motivated you to go to college? Why did you choose Kentucky State? Who do you believe is responsible and accountable for your college education? This will establish why you’re here and what you’re going to be doing while you’re here,” said Dr. Johnson.

Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Leroy Hamilton Jr. also provided remarks to the incoming class encouraging them to continue to be vigilante and grateful for the meaningful opportunities and challenges they will experience. “Let us use our talents, our gifts and expertise to benefit our community and our university. Let us go forth giving our best efforts willingly and cheerfully knowing that this great work that you do at KSU will enable your intended future.”

Freshman Jalen Allison was excited to start her journey at Kentucky State remarking on the welcoming environment. “The people here are really nice and inviting and make sure that you have everything you need. I love it here,” expressed the Detroit, Michigan native.

Lexington, Kentucky native Anthony Jackson Jr. said that his experience thus far has been enlightening. “Getting to meet people from all over the country with different backgrounds than me, but all have the same common goal has been eye opening! I’m happy to say I’ve met people I will hopefully call lifelong friends.”
