Summer programming at Kentucky State University offers access to education


Summer camps and programs began June 6 at Kentucky State University and will continue through the end of July, as the University continues to provide access to learning year-round.

Ag Discovery begins June 6 and concludes June 19. AgDiscovery is a two-week, residential program targeting diverse students from limited-resource communities interested in careers in animal science and veterinary medicine. 

The Verizon Innovative Learning Program begins June 7 and concludes June 25. The summer academy is the culminating event for the yearlong program which engages students in STEM subjects and aims to increase interest in attending college. 

Upward Bound begins June 14 and concludes July 23. Upward Bound is a federally funded program that provides support to participants whose goals are to receive a college degree. Participants will focus on mental health, financial literacy, sign language, communication and art. 

The Summer Apprenticeship Program runs June 15-17, June 22-23, July 6-8 and July 15-16. The Summer Apprenticeship Program is designed to prepare students for college life while exposing them to different career opportunities in STEM—science, technology, engineering and mathematics—fields. 

The Kentucky State University Pre-College Academy begins June 25 and concludes July 31. The Pre-College Academy is a tiered, multi-track academic enrichment residential program designed as a transition between high school and college. The academy allows first-year students or transfers with less than 30 hours to earn up to nine credit hours, experience campus life, create effective study habits and become acclimated to college before their first college term begins in the fall. 

The Summer Transportation Institute (STI) for middle school students begins June 21 and concludes June 25. The STI program for high school students begins July 18 and concludes July 31. The primary objective of the STI program is to provide awareness to middle and high school students about transportation careers and encourage them to consider transportation-related courses of study in their higher education pursuits.
