Kentucky State University student wins a national production award

A Kentucky State University student recently won a first-place national award in video production, while three other students placed for the first time in the College Broadcasters Inc. National Student Production Awards.

Diamond Gordon, a 2016 graduate of the mass communication and journalism program at Kentucky State won first place for best television promo at the Pinnacle Awards sponsored by the College Media Association recently at the Galt House in Louisville.

The National College Media Convention was hosted by the Associated Collegiate Press and College Media Association. The event featured over 275 workshops covering all forms of college media including multimedia platforms, yearbooks and magazine journalism. Gordon created the promo for the web-based program Diamond Edition while pursuing a master’s degree in public administration.

Additionally, Kentucky State journalism students placed for the first time in the National Student Production Awards sponsored by College Broadcasters Inc. Gordon placed third in the best promo video category, along with 2017 graduates Brooklyn Brown, Ronald Stone and Kristen Wheatley, who also placed third in the best public service announcement video category.

Broadcasting students in the One Mic Club are advised by David Shabazz, assistant professor of journalism and associate chair in the School of the Humanities and Performing Arts.
