Dear Faculty, Staff, Students, Alumni:

It is with deep sadness and regret that I announce the death of a pillar of Kentucky State University’s  (KSU) history, Mr. Brooks Giles.  He served KSU tirelessly for nearly 30 years. Mr. Giles was 86.

In 1958, the Hickory, North Carolina, native joined the faculty of KSU as an instructor of Industrial Arts. Subsequently, he was promoted to the rank of assistant professor (tenured). Along with department chair, Mr. W. Frank Shauntee, Mr. Giles designed the “new” Industrial Arts Building, (which is adjacent to the football practice field) and recruited Dr. W.W. Bearden to leave Tuskegee Institute to become the new department chair.

Later, Mr. Giles was named as Maintenance Department Head by President W. A. Butts.  Upon his retirement from KSU in 1987, Mr. Giles returned to his alma mater (Maryland Eastern Shore, formerly Maryland State) to become the Maintenance Department Head. After retiring from Maryland Eastern Shore, he and his wife returned to Frankfort.

Mr. Giles will be missed.
