Readmission Policy for Service Members
Kentucky State University (KSU) is committed to supporting students who serve in the U.S. Armed Forces. In accordance with federal regulations and the Federal Student Aid Handbook, KSU ensures the following for service members who must suspend their studies due to military service:
Eligibility for Readmission
- Students who are called to active duty for more than 30 consecutive days are eligible for readmission.
- Readmission applies to the same academic program or a similar program if the original is no longer offered.
Academic Status
- Students will be readmitted with the same academic standing, credits earned, and progress toward their degree as when they left.
Tuition and Fees
- Students will be charged the same tuition and fees as when they left, unless there have been across-the-board increases for all students.
Program Changes
- If program requirements have changed, KSU will make reasonable efforts to accommodate the student and ensure timely completion of the degree.
No Penalty
- No reapplication fees or penalties will be assessed for readmission following military service.
How to Request Readmission
- Students should notify the Office of the Registrar as soon as possible and provide documentation of military service orders.

Typically, we will ask for a copy of your DD-214, military ID, military orders or a Statement of Service. A current Leave and Earning Statement (LES) may also be a valid option for verifying status.
You must notify our office immediately. The VA may require repayment for the portion of tuition and housing allowance affected depending on the situation.
Due to FERPA regulations, we are not allowed to discuss personal/academic information with anybody other than the student themselves if they are over the age of 18. If a student wishes to have a parent speak on their behalf, they will have to fill specific forms for permission. Located here - click here.
Yes. We support dependents using transferred benefits (e.g., Chapter 35 and Fry Scholarship) and offer referrals to campus services.
