Every Thorobred Deserves a Team in Their Corner.
At Kentucky State University, we understand that being a college student comes with opportunities, challenges, and unexpected circumstances. Sometimes, navigating those challenges requires more than one person or office.
The Thorobred Care Network (TCN) is here to help.
TCN brings together caring faculty, staff, and campus resources to connect students with the support they need to navigate challenges, overcome barriers, and continue making progress toward their goals.
Whether you're seeking help for yourself or you're a faculty or staff member concerned about a student, the Thorobred Care Network provides a way to make sure no Thorobred has to navigate challenges alone.
How Can the Thorobred Care Network Help?
Students may be referred to the Thorobred Care Network for a variety of concerns, including:
- Academic Challenges: Difficulty keeping up with coursework, repeated class absences, academic struggles, or concerns about staying enrolled.
- Financial Concerns: Financial hardships, unexpected expenses, or difficulties navigating financial aid and university resources.
- Personal or Emotional Well-Being: Personal circumstances, stress, or emotional challenges affecting a student's ability to succeed.
- Housing and Basic Needs: Housing instability, food insecurity, transportation challenges, or difficulty accessing essential resources.
- Campus Engagement and Belonging: Feelings of isolation, difficulty adjusting to college life, or challenges connecting with the campus community.
- Unexpected Life Circumstances: Family emergencies, significant life changes, or other situations that may interfere with academic progress.
- Multiple or Ongoing Concerns: Situations involving several challenges that may require assistance from more than one university office.
Not sure whether your concern fits? That's okay. You don't have to know exactly what kind of help you need to reach out.
Who Can Submit a Referral?
Students: Seek Support for Yourself
If you're experiencing challenges that are affecting your academic success, well-being, or overall college experience, we encourage you to reach out. Asking for support is a proactive step toward your success.
Faculty and Staff: Connect a Student with Support
Faculty and staff play an important role in recognizing when students may need additional assistance. If you notice a student experiencing academic, personal, financial, or other challenges that may affect their success, you can submit a referral to the Thorobred Care Network.
You do not need to have all the answers or resolve the situation yourself. Your referral can help connect the student with the appropriate campus resources.
What Happens After a Referral?
- Submit a Referral
A student, faculty member, or staff member completes the Thorobred Care Network referral form.
- Review of the Concern
The information is reviewed to better understand the student's circumstances and identify potential support needs.
- Connection to Campus Resources
The appropriate campus partners work together, as needed, to determine available resources and next steps.
- Outreach and Follow-Up
A designated university representative may reach out to the student to discuss their needs, offer guidance, and help coordinate additional support.
Our goal is to ensure students feel heard, supported, and connected to the people and resources that can help them succeed.
