As the fall season settles in, our Facilities team will begin the annual process of transitioning from cooling to heating across campus. Today at 12:00 p.m., the campus cold water chiller system, which provides air conditioning, will be shut down to complete the necessary maintenance and preparations for the winter months. This marks the official start of our fall / winter transition period.
During this time, the steam plant will be activated to produce heat for residence halls and academic buildings. Because this changeover requires adjusting large-scale mechanical systems, you may notice some temporary fluctuations in indoor temperatures. Please know that the Facilities team will continue to closely monitor campus systems to ensure maximum comfort and performance wherever possible.
The chilled water plant will be turned back on in the spring, once the cold season concludes and temperatures begin to rise again. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we prepare our campus for the winter months ahead.
