KSU and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Embark on a New Partnership
Officials from the EPA will visit KSU on November 6
Kentucky State University (KSU) will be welcoming officials from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on its campus on Wednesday, November 6 in continuance of a recently established memorandum of understanding (MOU) with KSU. This distinguished meeting marks the beginning of a hopeful future filled with innovative collaborations.
The EPA is a United States agency established in 1970 with the mission to protect human health and the environment. The EPA ensures that all Americans are protected from significant risks due to environmental factors, such as air and water pollution, toxic chemicals, and hazardous waste, where they live, learn, and work.
KSU and EPA signed an MOU in August of 2024 with the intent to deepen the relationship between the two entities and collaborate on areas of mutual interest. Some of these areas include enhancing student and faculty participation in EPA programs and opportunities, developing joint research projects, and more.
This visit will explore the development of KSU and EPA’s partnership in areas such as internships, summer training, conducting short-and long-term student projects at national labs and other similar opportunities available for KSU students.
“The EPA’s Office of Research and Development is seeking to connect, engage, and build capacity and relationships to ensure we have regular, ongoing, robust collaborations with Minority Serving Institutions. We are extremely excited to have connected with KSU to discuss general research earlier this year before signing our MOU to embark on further building capacity at the University and our relationship going forward,” said Lara P. Phelps, Senior Advisor, Office of Resource Management Office of Research and Development U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
“It is certain that this partnership will have lasting, positive impacts for both the KSU community and the country for years to come,” said KSU President, Dr. Koffi C. Akakpo.
