The women of KSU Girls Rock lead by example and service to their peers and community members.

Founded in 2010, the mission of the organization is to empower women both on and off campus while also creating a better community and sisterhood between the women on Kentucky State’s campus.

Sydni Kinchen, a senior child development and family relations major from Fort Wayne, Indiana, said she joined because she initially heard about all the great things that they were doing on campus and in the community. She now serves as the vice president of the organization.

“I finally decided to become a member because I wanted to help make a difference and help build the organization,” Sydni said. “Plus, I was able to make some really great friends by being a part of this organization.”

The organization is very active. Just this academic year, they’ve been involved in projects ranging from helping out in multiple food drives, hosting an annual KSU Girls Rock award show, volunteering at Franklin County High School and mentoring the Girls Rock group there.

“This is an amazing organization to join,” Sydni said. “This organization will be able to help you grow as an individual and use your unique gifts to help build upon this organization and you can make many great friends in the process.”

Executive board members include Zaria Zepherin (president), Kinchen (vice president), Janelle Lattin (treasurer), Chelsie Washington (social media correspondent), Alexandria Holman (secretary) and Alexis Williams (event coordinator).
