The Kentucky State University director of the William Exum Center and campus wellness recently released his second book.

Twany Beckham, a Louisville native, released his new book, Pressure, Nov. 14, on his 30th birthday. Beckham recently joined Kentucky State as its new director of the William Exum Center and campus wellness. Beckham is using his life experience to impact the students at Kentucky State.

“Kentucky State University is pleased to welcome Twany (Beckham) from the Commonwealth,” Kentucky State University President M. Christopher Brown II said. “His statewide experience coordinating health promotion and individual wellness is widely respected. I am particularly excited to have a permanent director of Exum who is separate from the athletic director role. Several sectors of the campus community are also pleased with the planned return of intramural sports and employee health activities related to Go365. I have also charged Twany with the redesign of all of the public campus fitness facilities. His personal life story will inspire our students, staff and community stakeholders.”

Beckham’s responsibilities include collaborating with campus partners to provide the Kentucky State University community with facilities, programs and services that educate, promote and support a healthy, active and balanced lifestyle.

Pressure is a collection of stories about people from different backgrounds, class, sexual orientation, age and race who have all faced and overcome the pressures of life.

Beckham grew up in one of the roughest parts of the inner city of Louisville. At an early age, Beckham found his passion and used sports as a tool to help navigate his way to success.

Beckham earned a basketball scholarship to Mississippi State University and later transferred to the University of Kentucky.

In two-and-a-half years at UK, Beckham was a continuous member of the Southeastern Conference all-academic team and a member of its 2012 national championship team. Beckham graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2013 with a degree in communications.

Since graduation, Beckham also published a book titled Full Court Press – Conquering Adversity Under Pressure, where he tells the story about his life as a kid and shares valuable experiences he endured. Beckham travels and gives motivational speeches in hopes of changing lives and inspiring youth. He also coaches youth basketball.

From June 2016 to October 2018, Beckham served as the wellness director for the Kentucky Employees’ Health Plan, where he increased employee awareness and brought change to the health and wellness culture of Kentucky state employees.

Beckham’s book is available on Amazon.
