Kentucky State University President M. Christopher Brown II will welcome back the campus community when he convenes faculty and staff January 8 for Encampment 2018.

The day-long event kick starts the second half of the academic year for Kentucky State. Encampment brings together Frankfort community leaders, faculty, staff, students and alumni in finding new and effective ways of developing ideas, pursuing innovative strategies and applying knowledge for the public good.

According to President M. Christopher Brown II, Encampment will focus on positioning Kentucky State University for transformation and academic excellence.

“Our campus is transforming and we aim to achieve excellence without excuse in all we do,” President Brown said.

Encampment seminar leader Damon A. Williams, Ph.D., is one of the nation’s recognized experts in strategic diversity leadership, youth development, corporate responsibility, educational achievement, social impact and organizational change. He has worked with more than 700 colleges and universities, Fortune 100 companies, foundations and government agencies as a keynote speaker, strategist, educator and social impact leader. Williams authored Strategic Diversity: Activating Change and Transformation in Higher Education and co-authored The Chief Diversity Officer: Strategy, Structure, and Change Management.

Williams has also served in various roles at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Boys & Girls Club of America.

Encampment starts at 8 a.m. in the Carl M. Hill Student Center Ballroom. This public event includes continental breakfast and lunch. Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite Kentucky State shirt and jeans.
