Kentucky State University recently added decades of facilities management leadership with the hire of Wayne Goodwin as assistant vice president for facilities management.

Goodwin, who began Oct. 16, worked in facilities management for over 35 years at Jackson State University in Mississippi. He previously held the role of vice president of facilities and construction management at Jackson State. He is a native of Mississippi and attended Jackson State, where he received a bachelor’s in industrial technology/engineering and a master’s in industrial education.

While at Jackson State, Goodwin revitalized campus buildings, grounds and infrastructures to be one of the most prominent universities in Mississippi.

“I was personally committed to making the campus beautiful, functional and, most importantly, accessible to current and future generations,” Goodwin said.

Goodwin managed an annual operating budget of $10 million and a capital improvement budget ranging from $40-$65 million. Under his leadership, over 100 capital improvement projects totaling $375 million were completed, Goodwin said.

He previously served as president of the Southeastern Regional Association of Physical Plant Administrators (SRAPPA), where he increased participation among historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) within the organization. He’s also served on the board of directors for the Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers (APPA).

Goodwin has received numerous awards and honors, including a state-level energy and water management award, as well as the Presidential Medallion, the highest honor given to a Jackson State University employee. He is also a member of numerous professional organizations.
