KSU vs. Virginia State Football Game Sets Stage for Community Outreach Day

Posted on September 18, 2014

The KSU Thorobreds will face off against the Virginia State University Trojans at home in Alumni Stadium this Saturday, Sept. 20, at 4 p.m. The Sept. 20 game sets the stage for Kentucky State’s “Community Outreach Day.”

Local businesses and organizations have been invited to come enjoy the excitement of game day and receive well-deserved recognition. KSU and Lowe’s have partnered to create a women’s empowerment symposium, to be held on campus Sept. 25. Also, local members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. will set up a voter registration table at the game.

In addition, the game between the Thorobreds and Virginia State will act as “Take a Kid to the Game Day,” which gives kids the opportunity to come cheer on the Thorobreds free of charge. Over 300 kids from surrounding schools, Girl Scout troops and youth football leagues have been invited by the Athletic Department to help cheer on Kentucky State. All kids under the age of 12 will receive one complimentary ticket along with the purchase of an accompanying adult ticket.

The game will also serve as the football team’s annual “HIV/AIDS Awareness Game,” which aims to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention. This year, the KSU Substance Abuse and HIV Prevention Initiative and the D.O.P.E. Crew (Driving Our Peers Education) have purchased red socks and wrist bands for all of KSU’s sports teams to wear in an effort to promote substance abuse and HIV awareness among the students and the community.
