Kentucky State has two farms and one Aquaculture Research Center that form the backbone of our research facilities. Additionally, the University has research laboratories in histology, disease diagnostics, nutrition, soil science, entomology, plant genetics, animal nutrition, animal reproduction, and molecular research.
Welcome from the Associate Research Director
Kentucky State University's 1890 Land-Grant Research is supported by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) Evans-Allen Research Capacity and McIntire-Stennis Forestry Research Capacity Grants, as well as by Matching Funds from the State of Kentucky. Evans-Allen and the corresponding State Matching funds allow us to conduct research in agriculture, human nutrition, and human health. Additionally, the USDA provides Kentucky State University with the opportunity to apply for competitive 1890 Capacity Building Grants (CBGs). This USDA program for 1890 Land-Grant institutions support research, teaching, and extension by awarding grants that address key problems of national, regional, and multi-institutional importance in sustaining all components of agriculture, including farm efficiency and profitability, ranching, renewable energy, forestry (both urban and agroforestry), aquaculture, rural communities and entrepreneurship, human nutrition, food safety, family and consumer sciences, biotechnology, and conventional breeding. Kentucky State researchers have also received support from other competitive grant programs, such as USDA AFRI program, NSF EPSCor, and 1890 Centers of Excellence Grants. |
