Dear Thorobred Family,
Yesterday, Kentucky State University welcomed our newest Thorobreds and their families to campus. Their arrival brought renewed energy and purpose as we prepare for the beginning of the fall semester.
For our first-year and transfer students, move-in marked more than the beginning of
a new academic year. It was the start of a new chapter filled with possibility, discovery,
challenge, and growth. Each student arrived with a story, an ambition, and people
who helped make this moment possible. We are honored by the trust they have placed
in Kentucky State.
I am grateful to the faculty, staff, student leaders, volunteers, and community partners who prepared for their arrival and helped students and families navigate this important transition. The care shown during move-in offered our newest students an early glimpse of what it means to belong to the Thorobred family.
That welcome continues throughout BRED Weekend as students build relationships, learn about campus resources, and prepare for the semester ahead. On Sunday, we will welcome our continuing students back to The Hill and gather that evening for Freshman Confirmation, an important Kentucky State tradition recognizing the beginning of our newest students’ academic journey.
Classes begin Monday, August 17. Whether students are entering their first classroom at Kentucky State or returning for the next stage of their education, the start of a new academic year gives all of us an opportunity to renew our sense of purpose.
That purpose begins with our students. They are why we teach, advise, mentor, serve, and continue the important work of strengthening this University. Their success depends not only on what happens in the classroom but also on the encouragement, guidance, and sense of belonging they experience throughout our community.
To our students: Ask questions. Seek help when you need it. Get to know your professors and classmates. Explore the opportunities available to you and remember that people across this University are invested in your success.
To our faculty and staff: Thank you for bringing your knowledge, care, and commitment to the work ahead. Each interaction offers an opportunity to help a student feel supported and capable of reaching the goal that brought them to Kentucky State.
A new academic year reminds us that our responsibility is both immediate and enduring: to meet the needs of the students arriving now while preparing Kentucky State for those who will follow. Let us begin this year with optimism, purpose, and a shared commitment to helping every Thorobred move forward.
