Myiah Clemons (L) and Jasmine Prince (R) bring experience in advising, retention, and student leadership
Helping students stay on track toward graduation and find their place on campus is the shared focus of two new leaders in Kentucky State University’s Student Success team.
Myiah Clemons serves as director of student success and retention. Jasmine Prince is director of student experience, leading the Office of Student Experience and Leadership. Their roles connect academic advising and coordinated student support with the organizations, leadership opportunities, and traditions that help students become active participants in University life.
Clemons brings experience in advising, retention, student success data and systems, and program development. Her portfolio includes academic advising and degree progression, student care and early alerts, first-year experience, and the technology and processes that support those efforts. She also works with campus partners to strengthen student engagement and coordinate resources.
Her vision centers on helping the University anticipate students’ needs and connect them with support earlier. By bringing together data, advising, student care, and campus partnerships, she aims to create a more proactive approach to helping students persist and complete their degrees.
“I want to strengthen the systems behind student success while also strengthening the relationships that make those systems meaningful,” Clemons said.
Before joining Kentucky State, Clemons worked in student success data and systems at Berea College and held leadership roles in multicultural affairs and diversity initiatives at Morehead State University. Her background includes leading a multicultural affairs center and using student success data to support institutional decisions.
She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from Morehead State and is pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership at the University of Kentucky.
Prince’s work complements that focus by helping students participate fully in campus life. She brings a decade of experience developing student leaders, creating student experiences, and strengthening campus engagement.
The Office of Student Experience and Leadership oversees student organizations and involvement, the Student Government Association, Royal Court, Greek life and National Pan-Hellenic Council engagement, campus traditions, and student leadership development. Its work creates opportunities for students to connect with one another and contribute to the University community.
Prince said her vision is to help create a Kentucky State experience that “feels distinctly ours, one that celebrates our traditions, elevates student leadership, and gives students a strong sense of connection and belonging.”
Previously, Prince served as associate director of the Martin Luther King Center at the University of Kentucky, where she led programs and initiatives focused on student leadership, community, and belonging.
A native of Birmingham, Alabama, she earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a master’s degree in college student affairs from the University of South Florida.
“We want students to know where to turn for support and to see themselves as active members of this University community,” said Adam A. Smith, interim vice president of enrollment management and student success. “Myiah and Jasmine bring the experience to help us strengthen those connections and keep students moving toward graduation.”
